Launching of the 1856 Club

Dear Family and Friends of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at Wake Forest University,

This year we are beginning a new tradition called the 1856 Club. It is inspired by the distinguished history of our noble order, which began on March 9, 1856. Since this day, our Founding Fathers stressed two important principles, scholarship and philanthropy. Our Goal is to further ingrain these ideals into our chapter. We are asking for your help in this matter.

With a donation of $18.56, you can help us continue to endow various programs that help develop our members as well as other members of the community. Twenty-five percent of your donation will go directly to support the Children’s Miracle Network, Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s national preferred philanthropy because of its capacity to impact children’s lives. The other seventy-five percent will be allocated to our scholarship fund, which supports our chapter in many ways. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Faculty Brunch: Each semester, brothers invite university faculty and administration members with whom they have developed close ties to a brunch funded by the fraternity. This strengthens ties with the university, as we show our appreciation for all of the faculty and staff’s hard work in providing us with the best education in the country. It also helps brothers meet other faculty members of a department in which they are interested.

  • John O. Moseley Leadership School: Designed to develop leadership skills in undergraduates for use in their chapters and the world beyond, Leadership School has graduated over 25,000 members since it began in the 1935. The Leadership School curriculum is designed to instill both personal and chapter leadership development through three key dimensions: (1) the practical art of administering the affairs of an effective chapter, (2) teaching the principles of leadership, and (3) the Fraternity itself. Your donations will help send more brothers to this fine school.

  • Continuing Education: Because character development is essential to our Fraternity, we will begin holding educational seminars every quarter. They will cover essential areas such as etiquette and substance abuse, as well as professional areas covering topics such as interview skills and resume writing.

  • House Improvement: The chapter house and lounge are essential tools to all members of the chapter, whether they live in the house, on the halls, or not. General house and lounge improvements will make them better environments for studying and holding meetings.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon has given the True Gentleman of our chapter the opportunity to grow and give back to our community. These initiatives will help to further this development. We appreciate your donation and hope that you will give us permission to send our newsletter so you can see how far we’ve come over the last year and half.
